Municipality reportedly struggling to make enough money from power sales for grid maintenance

Residents in Nelson Mandela Bay, already battling along with the rising cost of living, were dumbfounded on Monday when the new electricity tariffs kicked in, with some saying they were simply unaffordable. 

The news comes as the municipality continues to move away from inclining tariff blocks, which previously shifted the majority of costs onto those who consumed higher amounts of electricity...
