Business workshop

THE hunt is on for South Africa’s next self-made millionaire who has the ideas, courage and energy needed to build a business from next to nothing and succeed against the odds.

The Brandhouse Pitch and Polish annual workshop and competition has begun in select towns and cities throughout South Africa, and will come to Port Elizabeth on July 28.

The free workshops are designed to create new entrepreneurs, and help existing small and medium enterprises (SMMEs).

"The upcoming workshop and competition give ideas-rich entrepreneurs their chance to develop essential skills, and test their business models,” said business author and Raizcorp chief executive Allon Raiz.

The format contains both a workshop and competition element with a new level introduced this year, said Raiz.

Participants will take part in a free day-long entrepreneurial event with the winners going through to the next round, which culminates in a semi-final and a final. Contestants are given three minutes to "pitch” their business idea to the audience (participants) who then decide whether or not they would invest in them as entrepreneurs.

A facilitator gives tips and guidance, helped by the audience, to "polish” the pitch.

The workshop-and-showdown takes place from 8am to 5pm at the East Cape Training Centre, Spondo Road, New Brighton. Closing date for registrations for Port Elizabeth is July 20.

To register, go online to www.pitchandpolish.com or sms "pitch” and your name to 41344 or call on (011) 56-2000 or e-mail pitch@raizcorp.com.
